COLUMBUS — Up to four inches of rain made memorial Day travel difficult in Platte County. Around one o’clock Monday, Platte County deputies closed Highway 81 near Platte Center as water was over the road. Travelers were re-routed through Genoa to the west and Schuyler on the east. The Nebraska Department of Transportation greeted motorists with the bad news and said most travelers took it in stride. Roads officials closed Highway 81 at the 91 Humphrey junction and stopped all northbound traffic at Platte Center. We have an update… The Department of Transportation was able to re-open the north bound lanes at Platte Center at 7:00 p.m. Monday. The southbound lanes remain closed.
