Houses on the Move for 12th Avenue Viaduct

COLUMBUS - If you drive down 12th Avenue you'll notice a slew of houses either disappearing or lifted up and ready to be moved. The Columbus City Council approved numerous more requests to move homes from the 12th Avenue area, near the train tracks, to other parts of Columbus, in preparation for the viaduct construction.  The city cemetery maintenance building will be removed from 12th Avenue as well. Loup Power is also making headway to move their service center from the 12th Avenue location, and plan to construct a new service center on the south side of Lost Creek Parkway, near land occupied by the Columbus Municipal airport. The city council approved a supplemental agreement with HDR Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $15,956.88 for final design services of the 12th Avenue viaduct. City officials have said the 12th Avenue Viaduct will begin construction once the 3rd Avenue viaduct and 18th Avenue pedestrian overpass have been completed. 12th Avenue currently operates as a detour for 3rd Avenue traffic.
