After speaking with the Mason City Village Clerk Donna Hoblyn-Bittner and American Red Cross Central/Western Nebraska Executive Director Rachelle Lipker, a correction was reported that the house fire on Monday involved two adults and no children (as opposed to one adult and two children as previously reported in the press release from the Red Cross).
MASON CITY–A house fire was reported at 7:26 a.m. on Monday, January 13 in Mason City at 225 Fremont Street. Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond told KCNI/KBBN Mason City and Ansley fire crews responded to the fire.
According to a press release from the American Red Cross, Red Cross volunteers were assisting one family (one adult and two children) with immediate needs along with comfort kits and personal care items.
“The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits, containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire,” the press release continues. “In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided.”
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal told KCNI/KBBN the fire was accidental and electrical in nature but did not know the extent of the damages.
KCNI/KBBN reached out to Mason City Fire Chief John Hawkins for more information but has not heard back at this time.
