High wind warning in effect Wednesday until 9 pm

A strong low pressure system is expected to cross the Plains Wednesday, leading to very strong winds and wintry precipitation. A high wind warning is in effect for the entire state. A winter weather advisory is in effect for NW Nebraska.

Wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible. Sustained westerly winds around 25 to 35 mph are expected.

Snow squalls are possible, which could lead to hazardous travel conditions.

Keep a distance from high profile vehicles. If you are driving and aren’t near a sturdy building, hold the steering wheel with both hands and slow down. Beware of loose outdoor items, stay clear of trees, and remember that high winds can create dangerous fallen or blowing objects.
