Grand Jury Investigation Called For Norfolk Standoff

NORFOLK – A grand jury has been called to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 47-year old Cory Dittman during a hours-long standoff in Norfolk last week.

Court records show District Judge Mark Johnson of Madison County ordered the grand jury into the incident to be held on June 18th.

On June 9th, authorities say Dittman shot 63-year-old Leone Bussey in downtown Norfolk. After a 14-hour standoff with police, Dittman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

By law, a grand jury must be called when a person has died while being apprehended or in the custody of law enforcement.

Following the investigation of a grand jury, members will decide if charges should be filed in the case.
