LINCOLN – Gov. Pete Ricketts issued an emergency declaration Tuesday in anticipation of severe weather today.
The declaration allows Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies to address potential impacts of a blizzard in the Panhandle and flooding elsewhere in the state.
Local jurisdictions who require assistance and resources may reach out to the state.
The governor’s proclamation notes life-threatening impacts from the weather and impacts on transportation, utilities and agricultural producers.
Snowfall amounts up to 24 inches and 60 mph winds are included in today’s forecast. One to three inches of rain is possible for the eastern portion of the state. Flood advisories are in affect for the Loup, Platte, Elkhorn and Missouri rivers.
The governor’s office has authorized ice dusting operations and NEMA is pre-positioning coal ash materials at airports in Columbus and Wahoo to facilitate aerial application of the material on river ice.
