Governor Getting Friendly Fire in Tax Fight

Omaha, NE.—Governor Pete Ricketts’ plans to cut property taxes are running into some friendly fire.

Governor Ricketts opposes any plans that would raise taxes.

But the conservative Platte Institute has been talking up the possibility of eliminating some sales tax exemptions to help property owners.

And now at least two state senators, both Republicans, are pushing plans to raise taxes on beer, wine and cigarettes along with a half-cent increase in the state sales tax in order to fund property tax relief.

NCN’s Joe Jordan spoke with the governor.
