Four Finalists Named for New Beatrice Public Schools Superintendent
Beatrice School Board members pour over information on superintendent candidates

BEATRICE –  The Beatrice District 15 Board of Education has selected four finalists as candidates to succeed Pat Nauroth, who will retire as Superintendent at the end of next June.

Superintendent finalists include:

  • Michael Halley, the Principal at Scottsbluff High School, since 2011
  • Jacquelyn Nielsen, Director of Curriculum since 2012, and Assistant High School Principal for Beatrice Public Schools
  • Michael Sieh, Superintendent at Stanton Public Schools since 2001, and Instructor of School Law at Wayne State College
  • Jason Alexander, Superintendent of Ord Public Schools, since 2009

The Beatrice School Board met in public session and in two executive sessions Tuesday night with officials of a superintendent search consulting firm, Baker and Rastovsky.

Dr. Roy Baker said 17 candidates submitted applications for the position of Beatrice School Superintendent.  Seven semifinalists for the position were offered for consideration and reviewed by the board.

:15                  “are women”

School Board and school staff are placing a premium on qualities of strong communication and people skills and knowledge as an education leader, in the next superintendent.  Community members placed emphasis on strong relationships within the community, experience in implementing educational priorities and demonstrated strong leadership.

Baker said there were other good candidates aside from the seven semifinalists.  He says his firm paid less attention to volume of information within the applications and more on specific contact with those who know the candidates.

:27                  “about these people”

School Board members reviewed confidential reports submitted by the consulting firm and used a matrix to score the candidates, before settling on the four finalists.  Board member Steve Winter feels it’s important for the person selected to have strong connections with the community.

:15                  “place that”

Baker and consulting firm member, Dr. John Skretta…the Superintendent of Norris Public Schools, met with the District 15 Board, Tuesday night.   Both said skills such as budgeting and finance can be developed.

:20                  “someone…right”

Beatrice School Board President Lisa Pieper felt there was “not much difference” between the candidates ranked third, fourth and fifth.  Board member Janet Byars felt the biggest difference between those candidates was experience in school finance and budgeting.

The four finalists will be interviewed in Beatrice, by school and community groups, December 9th…..after which a selection will be made.
