Former Teacher Sentenced for Drunkenly Assaulting Officers

CENTRAL CITY - A former teacher has been sentenced to prison and probation after she drunkenly assaulted multiple officers last year. 33-year-old Amber Douthit, also known as Amber Jasa, was found guilty of felony assault of an officer and 2nd offense driving under the influence in Merrick County, says court records. Court documents say Douthit was sentenced to serve 10 days in jail, in addition to several years of probation. Douthit was arrested back in January of 2017, when an officer saw her driving and turning with out using her signals, said court records. A Merrick County Sheriff's Deputy turned on his lights, and Douthit proceeded to pull into the driveway of what she stated was her house, says the affidavit. The officer says an open beer bottle was in the door of the vehicle and Douhtit refused  several requests to perform a field sobriety test, before becoming hostile. The officer says attempted to take Douthit into custody, when she began kicking the deputy in the legs wit her high heels. Douthit was eventually taken to the Merrick County Jail, where she screamed at officers and jail staff for roughly an hour, while refusing to take a preliminary breath test, says the deputy. Douthit requested a blood test be taken, just before 5 a.m. in the morning, so officers transported her to a hospital in Grand Island to take the test, says the affidavit. While at the hospital, Douthit attacked the officers, biting and scratching them, and told them several times that she was going to kick them in the crotch, stated the officer. Douthit had previously been convicted of a DUI in 2004, and according to her Facebook page, served as an English Learning Language teacher in Grand Island up until sometime in 2017. Douthit was transported to the Buffalo County Jail following her sentence, according to the Merrick County Sheriff's Department.
