Former Fremont police officer charged with first-degree child sex assault

A former Fremont police officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexual assault of a child.

Austin Williams, 33, was charged in a warrant with two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child and other related charges, court documents show.

The Nebraska State Patrol said authorities began investigating Williams last summer after an advocacy center notified it of a potential assault. Court records allege the abuse began in August 2015, when the child was 10 or 11, and continued to August 2018.

Williams’ employment with the Fremont Police Department ended this week, the State Patrol said.

Williams remained in the Dodge County Jail on Friday afternoon. He was ordered held on $500,000 bail.
