Former city clerk of Riverton, Iowa, must pay $77,000 in restitution

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The former city clerk of Riverton has been sentenced for bank fraud, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Carol Jennings, 57, was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay $77,247.47 in restitution. As part of her sentence, she must serve six months of home confinement.

In November, Jennings pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud. According to court records, Jennings admitted that while she was employed as the city clerk of Riverton, she opened an account with a local bank through a falsified document.

Jennings also admitted to depositing city funds into the account before using nearly the entire balance on herself.
