Fire Destroys Hay Pile Southeast of Norfolk

NORFOLK - Faulty equipment is being blamed for a hay pile fire near Norfolk Thursday. Norfolk Fire Capt. Lannce Grothe says the call came in around 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Capt. Grothe says a ground hay pile caught fire at a property on 837th Road southeast of town. Grothe says the fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes, but not before doing over $5,000 worth of damage. Meanwhile, state officials say fires of this kind could be popping up all over Nebraska. The National Weather Service in Omaha says there is a very high fire risk Friday, due to warm temperatures, high winds and dry conditions.
