Father of Nebraska Supreme Court Justice killed in crash

LINCOLN – The father of a Nebraska Supreme Court Justice was killed Thursday when his SUV drove into the rear of a semitrailer truck on Nebraska Highway 2 and South 91st Street in southeast Lincoln.

The sole occupant of a Ford Explorer was Thomas F. Funke of Nebraska City, Lincoln Police confirmed with News Channel Nebraska. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Funke, 79, was the father of Nebraska Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Funke.

According to the investigation, the truck was stopped at the intersection when it was struck from behind at around 9:30 a.m. Video from the scene shows where the SUV crashed into and was partially pinned underneath the semitrailer.

Funke was wearing a seat belt, police said. No one else was hurt.
