Familial Ties Link School Supply Fundraiser

NORFOLK - For a group of Nebraska stores, charity runs in the family. Famous Footwear is hosting a back to school drive, where shoppers can drop off school supplies and get coupons in return. Those supplies will then be given to kids in need, through a group that hits close to home for store managers. “My mom has been with the CASA organization since I was a kid,” said Jeremy Mathews, district sales manager for the shoe outlet. “I’m very proud of her and the work that she does.” Jeremy’s mom, Ruth, is the director for CASA in Northeast Nebraska, a group that advocates for children that end up in the court system because of abuse or neglect. She says the back to school season can be among the most difficult for children in their system. “Our families struggle with everything in every day life, so it’s really hard to get the extra supplies that the kids need,” Mattews-Mott said. “It’s nice for them to have them when school starts so they’re even with their peers.” Matthews says each of their locations have embraced the idea. “We just put the ball in their court,” Matthews said. “A lot of our store teams are making their own donation boxes and creating excitement in-store.” Donation boxes are located at each Famous Footwear location in Norfolk, Columbus, Lincoln, Omaha and Council Bluffs.
