In an era when many states are challenged to maintain adequate access to mental health, Faith Regional is choosing to invest in our behavioral health program. We want to provide the best psychiatric services to benefit the many patients who struggle with mental health issues across Northeast Nebraska.

NORFOLK --Faith Regional Health Services transitioned its Inpatient Behavioral Health Services from East Campus to West Campus on Tuesday. The new 16,951 square foot Behavioral Health Unit, is located on the fourth floor of the bed tower on the hospital’s west campus and includes 18 private rooms as well as common areas for daily living, dining, and recreation.

When the Bed Tower was originally constructed, only the shell of the fourth floor was completed so that space could be built out to meet the needs of future expansions.

“Starting with a blank slate allowed us to design the unit very specifically for behavioral health services,” said Tom Lee, Vice President of Support and Ancillary Services at Faith Regional. “There is a very open feel with easier visual access across the unit. In addition, the large picture windows allow lots of sunlight creating a very bright and uplifting feel.”

This relocation fulfills the goal of having all inpatient units located on one campus creating efficiencies throughout the hospital from lab to nutrition services.

“This is really exciting for us,” said Tom Lee, Vice President of Support and Ancillary Services at Faith Regional. “In an era when many states are challenged to maintain adequate access to mental health, Faith Regional is choosing to invest in our behavioral health program. We want to provide the best psychiatric services to benefit the many patients who struggle with mental health issues across Northeast Nebraska.”

Faith Regional's Behavioral Health inpatient program provides adults with acute psychiatric illnesses a safe and structured environment that offers compassion and hope. The unit's multi-disciplinary team includes psychiatrists, advanced care practitioners, nurses, techs, therapists, and social workers who work with each patient to formulate an individualized treatment plan.

"Our philosophy of care in mental health is it's your life, you should be in control," says Nathan Herman, MD, Medical Director of Faith Regional's Behavioral Health Inpatient Services. "Mental health doesn't discriminate. It can affect people from all walks of life - whether its farmers, ranchers, clergy, attorneys or those who work in manufacturing. Our role is really to be a partner, to serve as advisors, and help people get back to living their lives in a way that's rich and meaningful.”

Interventions are designed to provide patients with practical tools to manage their symptoms, improve their coping abilities, and help improve problem-solving skills. In order to reduce future hospitalizations, the care team works toward identifying and coordinating community resource support and aftercare services to assist each patient in meeting their goals.

Faith Regional's BHU treats both voluntary and involuntary patients. In addition, Faith Regional Physician Services Psychiatry offers outpatient care for adults and adolescents including medication management and therapy.
