WAKEFIELD, NE — A northeast Nebraska wind farm is growing its relationship with two of the biggest tech companies in the world.

Enel Green Power announced in a news release on Monday that its Rattlesnake Creek Wind Project in Dixon County will sell more of its energy to Facebook and Adobe.  Facebook previously agreed to purchase 200 megawatts from the farm but is now pledging to gradually increase its purchase to the project’s entire 320 MW potential by 2029.  Adobe agreed to purchase 10 MW of energy until 2028.

The wind farm is under construction and is expected to start operations by the end of the year.  It is located north of Wakefield and will be the second-largest wind farm in the state.  Enel says it plans to employ 12 full time workers and will have as many as 300 workers on-site during construction.

Facebook is purchasing the energy to provide power to the company’s new data center in Papillion.  Facebook says the Papillion campus will be its most sophisticated data center in the world and will run entirely on energy from the Rattlesnak Creek project.  Enel will tap into OPPD’s existing infrastructure to deliver the energy to Facebook’s Sarpy County campus.
