Kleeb would not comment on Ward's email, but Love fired back telling News Channel Nebraska:
I am disappointed with Vanessa who has been my friend for years. Her lack of experience in politics has not prepared her for hard political decisions we make. She is so wrong about all her personal attacks...She has forgotten my commitments to my community, tireless and no money. Her money attack is laughable. I didn't throw her under the bus....After I stepped away I continued to assist her in many ways.—Preston Love

Contacted this week by NCN, Ward said "fundraising is slow" but added "money is not more powerful than your vote."
The state's first financial campaign reports for the primary are due next week.
Just days before Ward officially launched her campaign in January—and before Krist joined the Democratic Party and entered the governor's race— NCN reported several items rocking Ward's bid for the governor's mansion:
- Her 2012 opposition to a City of Omaha ordinance that bans job discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. NCN learned that several party members, especially those in the LGBT community, were "deeply" bothered by Ward’s stance on the issue. Ward not only opposed the ordinance—which passed the council and was signed by then-Mayor Jim Suttle—she spoke against it during the council’s public hearing.
- News Channel Nebraska found that Ward, who joined the Democratic Party in December, did little in recent years to help the party. She not only voted for Republican Mayor Jean Stothert in 2017, Ward did a commercial touting Stothert’s reelection over Democrat Heath Mello.
- Ward failed to vote in several key state and federal elections, including the 2010 and 2014 governor’s races as well as the Obama wins in 2008 and 2012.
