Driver Of Car That Crashed During Loup2Loup Race Has Died

According to Sandhills Open Road Challenge Board Treasurer Becky Dailey, the driver of the white 2015 Chevy Camaro which crashed during the Loup2Loup Race in Halsey on Thursday, August 12 has died.

Leland Sweet succumbed to his injuries earlier this week after he and his navigator Robert Parsons were airlifted to local hospitals following the accident. At the time of the incident, reports were that the vehicle left the Halsey/Purdum road and rolled a number of times in the ditch.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to Susan and the Sweet family,” said Dailey. “Our thoughts are also with Robert as he continues to heal and recover.”

Parsons was expected to be released from the hospital at some time this week.
