Douglas Double Homicide Suspect Captured At US Border

Jangir accused of stealing shotgun on the night of Grimes' murder

NEBRASKA CITY – At 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Otoe County officials received a hit on a wanted bulletin for a double homicide at Douglas.

Brindar Jangir was captured by authorities near the border at San Diego.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office notified the victims’ family members of the capture. The sheriff’s office had provided security earlier Saturday for funeral services of 56-year-old Randal Grimes and 51-year-old Annette Grimes.

Officials say Jangir of Sioux City, Iowa, was arrested March 30  by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in California.

Jangir was in Mexico and attempting to regain entry into the United States on foot.

He was arrested without incident at the Otay Sentri border crossing approximately 40 miles southeast of San Diego.

Jangir is being held at a San Diego jail awaiting extradition back to Nebraska.

Jangir is charged in Otoe County with the first degree murders of the couple at their Douglas home. Their bodies were discovered by sheriff’s deputies on March 23.

An affidavit in Lancaster County Court says Jangir arrived at a Lincoln residence at 11 p.m. on March 22.

A Lincoln man told police that Jangir offered to buy a shotgun he had leaning against a wall for $300. The Lincoln resident said he fell asleep around 3 a.m. Saturday and awoke at 8:15 a.m. to find that Jangir had left and his shotgun was missing.

The shotgun was not loaded and the man said Jangir asked him about how to get “bullets” for it.

He said Jangir arrived at his residence in a red car that he believes belongs to Jangir’s girlfriend.

An Associated Press report said Jangir’s girlfriend told investigators that he had threaten to kill her and her parents if she ever left him.

He arrived in Lincoln the night of the murders saying his girlfriend in Sioux City had a protection order out against him. She reportedly moved out March 12.
