Donut Dash 5k Circles Town Square

BROKEN BOW – The dust from Crazy Days’ first round had hardly the time to settle before being kicked up once more by 40 runners on Saturday morning.

The 5k Donut Dash, put on by the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, welcomed two- and four-legged runners and walkers (and a biker or two, for good measure) from around the area on a single “hole-y” crusade: a glazed, sprinkled, or chocolate frosted donut for completing the run.

Ages six to sixty made tracks; the route started near the gazebo and stretched around Melham Park before returning to town square. Runners’ completion times ranged from a blistering eighteen minutes to a still-impressive near-hour; as each one crossed the finish line, they were greeted with cheers from supporters and family.

Fortunately for those running, as well as volunteers and spectators, the 9 a.m. race was well underway and mostly completed before Saturday’s heat advisory was up and out of bed. One could have just as easily dubbed the event the “5k to Outrun the Sun;” thanks to the speed of volunteers, the square was tidied up just after 11 a.m.

Medals were awarded to those finishing first, second and third in their respective categories, though all participants (and several supporters) received a donut.
