Dems and GOP Differ on Danner; NCN Exposes New Details

Omaha, NE.—Following News Channel Nebraska's exclusive report that Spencer Danner—the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State—is accused of fraud, NCN has  learned that Danner has been in and out of bankruptcy court. But Jane Kleeb, the head of the Nebraska Democratic Party, isn't giving up on Danner. (See Further Details in Joe Jordan's Exclusive Investigation, Video Above). "The Secretary of State race, I think, is the underdog race that nobody is paying attention to; a lot of the grass roots are paying attention to, so Spencer Danner, I think, has a real shot at that."

But as News Channel Nebraska first reported Danner is accused of cheating an Omaha family out of thousands of dollars and putting their lives in danger.

According to sealed court documents examined exclusively by NCN, while selling his mid-town Omaha home Spencer Danner, among other things, lied about the home's "unsafe"heating system that would eventually leak "deadly" levels of carbon monoxide.

And now NCN has learned that Danner has filed for bankruptcy at least three times, claiming debts of 116 thousand dollars, 327 thousand and 659 thousand— more than one- point-one million dollars.

NCN's Joe Jordan:  (Danner) is in the middle of a civil lawsuit, he's accused of fraud. He's got lots of bankruptcies in his past. Is that the kind of candidate that should be Secretary of State?

Jane Kleeb: I do think with the real estate they are going in arbitration, I think they'll come to some consensus on the next steps. And there's no doubt that folks on the Democratic ticket, Spencer Danner specifically, has some bankruptcies in his past. I don't think that that should be something that we write off. It is a reality for some working class families that they struggled with finances early on. He was in the military doing his best to take care of...he has five kids and it's not easy and sometimes families have to do that. It doesn't mean that you're awful. I mean President Trump certainly has some bankruptcies in his past, I think, as well.

As NCN reported earlier, Danner isn't talking but his attorney issued a statement saying, "Mr. Danner strongly disputes and rejects all allegations against him relating to this dispute. Mr. Danner expects that this dispute will be informally resolved or resolved in a private arbitration."

As for the battle for Secretary of State, Danner is running against Republican Bob Evnen who, according to the latest state campaign reports, has spent four times more than Danner, his financially troubled opponent.

Following our initial report the Nebraska Republican Party jumped on Twitter insisting that Danner "should disqualify himself being the state's chief business officer." Follow Joe on Twitter and Facebook And on NCN (Cox Cable 1116, Spectrum 98)
