Defense Attorneys Ask for Dismissal of Norfolk Murder Charges

MADISON - Defense attorneys are asking a northeast Nebraska court to dismiss murder charges against a Norfolk man who they say is not competent for trial. Defense attorneys filed a motion for dismissal in Madison County Court last week on behalf of 49-year old Rodolfo Castaneda-Morejon. In the motion, defense attorneys argue that since Castaneda-Morejon has received no treatment since being found not competent for trial in May, he would not be competent for his new trial date of October 9th. Castaneda-Morejon was arrested in August of 2017, accused of stabbing to death Yosvanis Velazquez-Gomez at a Norfolk apartment. Castaneda-Morejon was ordered by the court to be placed in the custody of the Lincoln Regional Center in May, but defense attorneys say he was never sent to Lincoln, and remains in the Madison County Jail. A hearing on the motion to dismiss will be held in Madison County Court on Friday, October 5th.
