TECUMSEH - Convicted murderer Patrick Schroeder appeared in court Thursday morning before a three-judge panel at the Johnson County Courthouse in Tecumseh, deciding if he should receive a death sentence for a murder at the Tecumseh state prison. Prosecutors showed an hour-long video interview where Schroeder described his 2006 murder of Pawnee County farmer Kenneth Albers. Schroeder said he hit the 75-year-old farmer multiple times with a night stick and later threw his body into an abandoned well. He said he went to Albers’ residence to get money from his safe. Prosecutors say the previous murder makes the death penalty appropriate for the murder of Schroeder’s cell mate Terry Berry. Schroeder, 40, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for strangling of Berry on April 15. Berry’s relatives are among those at the district court in Tecumseh. Stay with News Channel Nebraska for all the latest on this developing story.
