David City Man Given 45 Days in Jail for Illegally Possessing Sword, Knife

DAVID CITY, Neb. - A David City man was given jail time this week for illegally possessing a weapon as a convicted felon. 22-year-old Jordan Pavel was sentenced to 45 days in jail, with one day already served, for carrying a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. Pavel was convicted of the crime in Butler County District Court in August, after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors, that dropped a second weapon charge, and also dropped a theft charge. According to court records, authorities found a sword with a 27 and a half inch blade and a bowie knife with a 10-inch blade inside his home during a probation check. During the search, authorities also say they found around 80 pairs of work gloves that they say Pavel took from his former employer in order to sell for a profit. Records say Pavel admitted he attempted to sell the gloves, valued at $305 total. Besides his jail stint, Judge Mary Gilbride ordered on Tuesday that Pavel pay back $305 in restitution, as well as 12 months of probation after jail. Pavel, a felon barred from owning deadly weapons, was convicted in 2015 of felony attempting to sell drugs in Butler County.
