Custer County Patrol Vehicle Totaled In One-Vehicle Accident

MERNA— Cattle out near Merna cause a crash involving a Custer County Deputy Sheriff’s patrol vehicle. According to police logs, Deputy Lawrence Stump was on patrol on Sunday, October 28 and traveling west on Highway 2 at approximately 1:30 A.M.

As the cattle ran out into the road near Highway 2 and Victoria Springs Road, Deputy Stump was unable to avoid the group where he then struck and killed three of the animals. The Custer County Sheriff and Merna Fire and Rescue responded to the accident.

Deputy Stump was transported to Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center with no severe injuries, but was seen as a precaution according to Sheriff Dan Osmond. The patrol vehicle was totaled and towed by Hunters Towing.
