Custer County Ag Society Discusses 2019 Fair Schedule

CUSTER COUNTY—The 2019 Custer County Fair is right around the corner and the Ag Society is finalizing the fair schedule. One major difference at this year’s fair is the potential for no Tuesday night concert. Board members said no plans had been made for the annual concert as of last week during the March 21 Ag Society meeting.

Regardless of a concert, the Ag Society has many other events scheduled for fair week. Currently the week includes the Saturday night parade, Sunday night music organized by the Broken Bow Ministerial Association, Monday night free pit BBQ, celebrity cow milking contest, square dance, and the Custer County Bull Riding Classic. Other events tentatively include the open class horse show, a watermelon feed, cowboy mounted shooting, a teen dance, among other events and 4-H displays.

Last Thursday evening, treasurer Ron Chytka reported to the board that the general fund currently sits at $86,721.30.

Extension Educator Troy Walz said a total of 99 kids brought in 178 head for the February Market Beef Weigh-In with weights ranging from 537 to 1,176 pounds. Walz said the fair premium book is almost done and that livestock and horse judges have been booked.

Becky Pearson and Marla Stallbaumer are still gathering quotes for the new park restrooms, in which $21,000 raised during the Winter Ball will fund.

There were no updates to the silent railroad crossing project or the crows nest. JJ Martin told the board that windows were fixed on Buildings 5 and 6, Barns 3 and 4 were torn down last week, and the leftover tin may be sold in an upcoming auction.
