Cuming County Murder Trial May Be Delayed

WEST POINT - A northeast Nebraska murder trial may be delayed yet again.

Lawyers for 28-year old Derek Olson of Madison asked Cuming County district court Thursday to delay Olson’s trial, currently scheduled to begin September 17th.

Olson is one of two people accused of stabbing to death Ernest Warnock at a rural Bancroft farm home, killing Warnock’s dog and setting his home on fire.

One of the reasons attorneys want Olson’s trial delayed is because judge is currently mulling a request to combine Derek’s trial with his codefendant and father, Jody Olson. As of now, Jody Olson’s trial is scheduled to begin July 16th.

A woman accused as an accessory in the case, Jenna Merrill, had her pre-trial hearing delayed a month on Thursday.
