LINCOLN - On Tuesday afternoon, many spoke out against President Trump's decision to remove the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. One of those voices included Crete's Mayor, Roger Foster.
"Well, our Hispanic and Latino community in Crete is a big part of our community, it's a big part of our school system, it's a big part of our economy. To stand with those people is just important for our community as a whole, and I think I'd be derelict in my duties if I didn't stand up for everyone. That's why I thought it was important."
The removal of President Obama's DACA puts roughly 3,000 Nebraskan immigrants out of work.
DACA advocates rallied outside the state capitol in Lincoln to voice their opinions on the president's decision.
"I'm not surprised by the decision today. I think we all kind of saw it coming. My hope will be that congress will act in the next six months and they take some of these rallies around the nation as an example of people that support DACA recipients, "DREAMers", and immigration as a whole. I hope they take that forward and I hope they put that as on of their top priorities, above some of the other things on their plate," said Mayor Foster.
Congress has until March 5th, 2018 to come up with a solution.
