County Court Stays Busy; First Appearances, Preliminary Hearings, Bench Warrants

CUSTER COUNTY— The Custer County Courtroom was plenty busy on Monday, May 17 with a number of felony criminal cases being heard.

Hugo Loredo, 27 of Thornton, CO, made his first appearance on charges of alleged possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine (Class IV Felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (Infraction).  A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 14 at 2:30 PM and Loredo’s bond was also reduced from 10% of $50,000 to 10% of $5,000.

Ryan Campbell, 23 of Broken Bow, had his case bound to Custer County District Court after he waived his preliminary hearing. Campbell’s attorney, Michael Borders, stated his client had agreed to waive prelim with the understanding he was going to be recommended to problem-solving court.

Campbell will appear in Custer County District Court on Thursday, May 20 at 9:30 AM where he will be arraigned on alleged charges of possession of a defaced firearm (Class III Felony), possession or receiving a stolen firearm (Class IIA Felony), possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine (Class IV Felony), and possession of a controlled substance-marijuana less than an ounce (infraction).

A brief preliminary hearing was held for Kyle Martin, 29 of Broken Bow, as he faced charges of alleged 2nd-degree domestic assault (Class IIIA Felony), false imprisonment (Class IIIA Felony), and obstruction of a police officer (Class I Misdemeanor). During the hearing, Deputy County Attorney Glen Clark had the victim take the stand where she stated that she and Martin got into an altercation that got ‘out of control.’

She stated too many people were involved in the matter and false accusations were made which bought about charges. She also wrote a letter to the County Attorney’s Office asking for the charges to be dropped.

Martin’s attorney, Borders, stated that there was clearly not enough evidence to support the felonies and asked them to be dismissed, which was granted by Judge Tami Schendt. The sole alleged misdemeanor charge was scheduled for a pre-trial hearing for July 12 at 2 PM.

First appearances were also heard for Shawntina Iiams, 46 of Wakanda, SD, Terel Johnson, 46 of Denver, CO, and Molly Nelson, 34 of Crystal, MN.

Iiams is charged with alleged possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance- marijuana (Class IIA Felony), possession of a controlled substance-marijuana more than one pound (Class IV Felony), and possession of a controlled substance-THC (Class IV Felony).

Johnson is charged with alleged possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance- marijuana (Class IIA Felony), possession of a controlled substance-marijuana more than one pound (Class IV Felony), possession of a controlled substance-THC (Class IV Felony), and resisting arrest (Class I Misdemeanor).

Nelson is charged with alleged possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance- marijuana (Class IIA Felony) and possession of a controlled substance-marijuana more than one pound (Class IV Felony).

10% of $5,000 bench warrants were also issued for Tokala Bank, 40 of Rapid City, SD, Joseph Birdshead, 37 of Moore, OK, Devon Fleming, 31, and Amanda Wise, 41, for failing to appear.
