Contractors and City Officials Inspect Renovated Library

Broken Bow city officials gathered Wednesday, December 27th, 2017 with key contractors to carefully inspect the renovation and addition to the Broken Bow Library. By the end of the day, a punch list was compiled. The list included things that need to be completed and re-worked to meet all the specks in the building plans. The target for completion is December 31st, 2017 and the project is on schedule with just a few exceptions.

The $1.7 million construction project included reconfiguring and opening up the interior space by taking out walls and updating the 1971 building, Library Director Joan Birnie told KCNI/KBBN News that an additional 4,000 square feet were added to the south and east of the original 8,100-square-foot building. The Broken Bow Library Board and the Library Foundation has been working for over ten years to make the dream come true.

The temporary library will close Friday, January 5th, 2018 to pack up and move back into the improved building in downtown Broken Bow.

An appreciation event is being held for anyone who donated to the project on Friday, January 26th, 2018. That evening, organizers plan to unveil the donor wall in the new facility. A ribbon cutting and open house for the public will be held Saturday, January 27th, 2018. The doors will open Monday, January 29th to serve the public.

Because of donations from citizens and businesses as well state and private foundation grants the goal was reached for constructing the addition and renovation. Donations are still being taken to purchase furniture, equipment, and new technology. Names of donors can be added to the donor wall through December 31st. 2017.
