NORFOLK — More workers and an expanded facility are coming to a Norfolk manufacturing plant soon.

Continental announced via a news release on Monday that the company is planning a $9.3 million expansion of its rubber mixing operations at its industrial hose plant in Norfolk.  It also said it plans to hire at least 30 new workers.  The release says the expansion will help the facility to make rubber for industrial hoses and whitewall tires for passenger cars.

“We have plans to add in excess of 19,000 square feet to expand our rubber mixing capabilities and better serve our internal and external customers,” plant manager Dan Granatowicz said. “The investment will also reaffirm our commitment as a good corporate citizen to the Norfolk community and the region as we secure jobs and support the economies of each.”

The ContiTech plant currently employs over 360 people.  Granatowicz says construction work will start immediately and be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2019.

The facility primarily manufactures industrial hose and supplies compound for general purpose, water, garden, and mining hose.  The news release says the new mixing operations will enable the plant to supply compound for product-specific whitewall Continental passenger tires.
