BEATRICE – Beatrice Police and Beatrice Fire and Rescue held their annual Community Connection event last night on 5
th Street, in the downtown area.
Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang says the public safety departments have been holding the event for about four years, as a way of getting information from people that could aid in the response to an emergency call involving them or a family member.

The Beatrice Orangemen Football team, BHS cheerleaders and Special Olympics flag football members participated in the event. Special Olympians participated in their own, “tunnel walk”, high-fiving the BHS players and cheerleaders.
Julie’s Hot Dog stand was providing a free hotdog to anyone who filled out the form that provides police, fire and rescue with critical information, if emergencies arise.
Lang says the idea for the information system is modeled after another police department’s program.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics brought department vehicles to display last night and mingled with the crowd.

If you were unable to attend last night, you can fill out a form any time of the year, at Beatrice Police or the Fire Department. It only takes a few minutes. Officers also have the forms with them. Lang estimates that about 200 people have done so, since the project began.
