Columbus Woman Holds National Weight Lifting Record

COLUMBUS - At the age of 27, a Columbus powerlifter went from trying to be more active to holding national records. Powerlifter Ludy Harger has set the record at The Nebraska Show of Strength in deadlifting and benchpressing and she also holds the highest total in the UPA Raw Division. "It's something unbelievable for me, I never imagined to have this in my life. Two years ago hen I started doing this. You know it was just to come here and workout and to get into better shape and to try to be a little healthier. My trainer Aaron, he believed that I could do something and he invited me to go to the first powerlifting meet," says Harger. Harger says everyday is a challenge and there's always something new to expect when she walks into the gym. "We've gone to meets in Iowa with her and supported her through it. She got into it as a byproduct of some weight loss goals that she had, found out she was pretty good at it and has been having fun ever since then. It's a lot of fun working with her she's been great to coach. She does what she needs to do, she makes the adjustments that are needed and she's always happy, and always positive and helps a lot with other people in the gym with us," says Head Strength Coach Aaron Bozarth. To Harger, it's more than just power lifting  and competition. "It's like a big family, thats why I like it, thats why I love powerlifting honestly. When you go there you go in nervous," says Harger. "She has some high aspirations, hopefully one day she gets there and we can be apart of that with her," says Bozarth. With all of her accomplishments she has completed she says she is not done breaking records.
