Columbus Woman Given Probation for Selling Pot in Town

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus woman convicted of dealing pot in Platte County was spared prison time. 23-year-old Nicole Penfield was sentenced to two years of probation late last week by Platte County Court Judge Robert Steinke. Records say in September she sold marijuauna to an informant for $160. The documents say she set up another pot transaction for $100 the next day, using the Facebook messaging app to communicate. She pleaded guilty to a drug delivery charge in November, with the state dropping an aiding and abetting charge in a deal. Steinke could have given Penfield as much as 20 years in prison, but elected for probation, due to her minor criminal history. Court records say Penfield had a Newman Grove address when she was initially charged.
