Columbus Woman Accused of Stealing from Jail Inmate in Polk County, Found Guilty of Misdemeanors

OSCEOLA, Neb. - A former Polk County jail employee accused of pocketing $600 from an inmate and then pressuring a co-worker to conceal it, has been found guilty of two misdemeanors. 39-year-old Kristin Sealing of Columbus was convicted of attempted theft and attempted tampering with a witness, in court last week. According to court records in April of last year, a man who was set to serve a prison term in Lincoln came to the Polk County jail to get processed and brought with him just under $1,800. Documents say when he was being processed in Lincoln, he had $600 less. Upon hearing of the issue, Sealing then called another jail employee working that day and told to say the inmate had just under $1,200, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. In an interview with NSP a few days later, they say Sealing got mad and abruptly quit her job with the jail after hearing there was video of the incident. The records say that video evidence shows two separate angles of Sealing counting the money and then putting some of it in her jacket. The inmate told authorities that he brought the cash to withdraw into his prison account. Sealing will be sentenced on Match 7th.
