COLUMBUS – A Columbus man will spend over 40 years in jail as a result of shooting a police officer last June.
25-year-old Jorge Robledo was sentenced before the Platte County District Court on Thursday for a June 7, 2018 incident where Columbus Police officers attempted to arrest him on a Hall County Warrant. An affidavit states that Robledo resisted arrest, shooting and critically injuring Sergeant Brad Wangler, while also firing at Officer Jeff Anderson.
Robledo was apprehended, and charged with nine felonies of varying degrees, which he plead no contest to this past December. Four of the counts were subsequently dropped, and Robledo was found guilty of the five remaining charges, which included:
- Count 1: Possession of a deadly weapon (firearm) by a prohibited person – Class 1B felony
- Count 4: First degree assault on an officer – Class 1D felony
- Count 5: Use of a deadly weapon (firearm) to commit a felony – Class 1C felony
- Count 6: Possession of a deadly weapon (firearm) by a prohibited person – Class 1B felony
- Count 9: Possession of a schedule II exceptionally hazardous controlled substance (140 grams or more of methamphetamine) with intent to distribute – Class 1B felony
Robledo was sentenced to an indeterminate period of not less than 20 years and not more than 25 years in jail on counts 1, 6, and 9, which will be served concurrently. Count 4 carries a sentence of not less than 40 years and not more than 50 years in jail, while a sentence of not less than 20 years and not more than 30 years was administered for count 5. Counts 4 and 5 will be served consecutively to the concurrent sentences of counts 1, 6, and 9.
Cumulatively, Robledo will serve a minimum of 44 years in the Platte County Jail, and received credit of 238 days of time served with regards to count 4. Robledo was remanded into the custody of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office following sentencing.
