Columbus Man Killed in Downtown Accident

COLUMBUS - A Columbus pedestrian has died after he was hit by a vehicle in downtown Columbus. Columbus Police say in a press release that officers and medics were dispatched, at about 6:03 p.m. Saturday, to the area of 11th Street and 23rd Avenue to investigate a report of a pedestrian being hit. CPD say in the report that a 2008 Mazda sedan turned right onto 23rd Avenue from 11th Street, when it struck Timothy Kneifel, 59, who was crossing the street to get to his vehicle. CPD say Kneifel was not in the crosswalk, when the accident took place. Kneifel was transported to the Columbus Community Hospital and treated for critical injuries, before being taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, says CPD. Police say Kneifel eventually died from the injuries sustained in the accident. No alochol, drugs, or speed were factors in the accident say police, and no chargers are expected to be filed.
