Columbus Man Given Probation for Violating Sex Offender Registry

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus sex offender was given one year's probation after being found guilty of violating the sex offender registry. 25-year-old Abraham Horta was given the sentence by Judge Robert Steinke in Platte County District court on Friday. Court records say Horta moved residences in Columbus around March and did not report his move, despite being required by law, after three months. Documents say he registered his new address in June, but was evicted a month and a half later. Police say Horta never reported a new address. Horta was convicted of 3rd degree sexual assault of a minor in Platte County in 2011, according to the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. He was also found guilty of 2013 of attempted violation of the sex offender registry. His probation terms require him to seek a GED.
