Columbus Man Accused of Sexually Abusing Mentally Disabled Woman, Found Guilty of Lesser Charge

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus man was found guilty of abusing a woman with mental disabilities on Wednesday. The 54-year-old man, who is not being named to protect the victim, pleaded no contest to abusing a vulnerable adult in a plea deal. Prosecutors dropped four charges including, one count of sexual assault of an incompetent person and three counts of attempted sexual assault. Records say in May of last year, a mentally disabled woman reported to police that her adoptive mother's husband had been making sexual contact with her over the last three weeks. The man told police that they had sexual contact four times, but he denied penile penetration. He will be sentenced on March 2nd in Platte County court.
