Columbus Man Accused of Fighting in Jail, to be Sentenced Next Month

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus man found guilty of trying to assault a fellow inmate will soon be sentenced. 50-year-old Joseph Ryan was convicted last year of attempted assault on a confined person. Records say in mid-June of 2017, Ryan struck another inmate at the Platte County jail. In a separate incident, he was given probation in September of last year for attempted assault on a police officer that occurred in March. Judge Robert Steinke told him at the sentencing last fall that Ryan will "get the court’s compassion today, if I see you back here, it won’t be as pleasant of an experience,” says Steinke. Judge Steinke will sentence Ryan on February 16th.
