Columbus Bar Robbery Accomplice Given Lengthy Prison Stint

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A man who was an accomplice to an armed robbery at a bar in Columbus is going to prison. 22-year-old Devin Piper of Columbus was sentenced to six to 10 years in prison after being convicted of attempted aiding and abetting. Records say Piper entered the Avenue Bar in August to make sure the bartender was alone, before his alleged accomplice, 30-year-old Malinda Honea, held the employee at gunpoint. He then drove the getaway car, according to Judge Robert Steinke. Piper's attorney asked for probation saying he was addicted to meth at the time of the robbery and that he needed money for an expected child. "I'm looking for help your honor, whatever you give me, I'm going to accept it," says Piper. He had a 2nd degree assault charge that stemmed from an alleged fight in jail dropped in a plea agreement. Piper thanked Judge Steinke after his sentenced. "You're welcome," Steinke replied. He was given credit for 140 days served.
