NORFOLK - As the cold weather settles back into the area, Norfolk officials are asking the public not to leave their cars unattended when warming them up before their morning commutes.
Norfolk Public Safety Director Shane Weidner says while leaving a vehicle running while unoccupied is not against any city ordinance, the risk exists that it could be stolen. Weidner advises for people not leave their cars running and unattended whether they're at home, a gas station, or store as it leaves the possibility for it to be taken.
Officials advise that a remote starter or extra set of keys for a vehicle is a good alternative to leaving a vehicle running unattended.
