City of Columbus to Hire Non-Profit to Assist with Housing Shortage

COLUMBUS, Neb. - The city of Columbus is creating a non-profit in an effort to address the city's housing shortage. The council unanimously approved to form the non-profit corporation - Columbus Community Partners for Housing Inc. in their meeting on Monday. One of the goals of the non-profit will be to clean-up vacant and abandoned properties and use them for housing. This would be more affordable than starting from scratch, with infrastructure already in place in those locations. Last month, the city put forth measures to identify and resolve issues with dilapidated structures in Columbus. The non-profit will cost a total of $880, with $30 going to the state and $850 to the IRS.
