COLUMBUS - The Columbus City Council approved an amendment to the 33rd Avenue and U.S. Highway 30 redevelopment plan at their meeting Monday night. The purpose of the amendment was to provide details for the first phase of the project. The first phase will include three different projects carried out by three different developers. The first involves the rehabilitation of about 55,000 square feet of indoor space in the vacated Walmart building, and another 35,000 square feet of outdoor display space. This portion will be carried out by Bomgaars Supply, Inc. The second project will be the construction of a prototype, four-story interior corridor Hampton Inn. The hotel will be built on approximately two acres of the Walmart parking lot, and will be constructed by Columbus Lodging. The third and final project will be the construction of a four-story interior corridor apartment complex on two acres of the parking lot as well. The complex will be built by Quantum Columbus.
