City Council Approves Annual Audit Report

City Council Approves Annual Audit Report
Broken Bow City Council met at the Library on Tuesday evening

BROKEN BOW—Upon holding its first meeting at the Broken Bow Public Library, the City Council met on Tuesday night to discuss water use fees, a 5K run, and the annual audit and TIF reports.

Parking issues on South N Street were addressed by Doug Sadler and Elain Bayer who presented their concerns to the council, police, and streets superintendent. All were in agreement that a parking problem exists and will carefully monitor the situation.

Library Director Joan Birnie presented the annual library report which showed that 25,597 visitors checked out 31,824 items during fiscal year 2017-2018.

Public hearings were held on Water and Sewer Use Fees; no one spoke but each ordinance heard its second reading.

Karly Boje, a 2015 Broken Bow graduate, received approval from the council for road closures on Saturday, April 13 for the Nebraska Flood Relief Fun Run to be held at 10 a.m. and beginning at the Melham Softball Complex. Jeff Oeltjen with Dana F. Cole Company presented the annual audit report for the City of Broken Bow saying it was “a clean audit.” City treasurer Nancee Coufal presented the annual TIF report and both were approved by the council.

“It was a clean audit that we went through so that’s why our opinion is what they call an unqualified opinion. As far as major highlights as I was saying during the presentation is that our assets did increase this year and that’s mainly because it was the funds from the bond for the downtown improvement project that came in during the year that was otherwise spent in the previous year,” Oeltjen said.

Carlene Albin was appointed to the Park Board for a term ending February 2022 and various items were deemed surplus by the council. The meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m. and the next City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the library.
