CUSTER COUNTY—Another transition is in our midst as Executive Director Deb McCaslin announces her plans to retire from the Custer Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) this spring.
“Well this is a job I absolutely have fallen in love with. I so wish I were a younger person! If I were just a little younger I wouldn’t even be contemplating this,” McCaslin said.
McCaslin worked at the Custer County Chief for 18 years and after only being retired from that position for one month, she decided it was time for her next adventure. Taking advantage of the rare opportunity presented to her, McCaslin decided to apply for the CEDC Executive Director position. She said the job was going to be temporary but she ended up staying for a few years and has continued to share her enthusiasm with the entire county.
“I feel like I’ve spend most of my life preparing for this job. It’s a job I fell in love with. I could not ask for a better county to work in, a better board to work for, a better work situation. Getting out and being able to promote what a great place Custer County is to live, work, and play has been pure joy the last couple years,” McCaslin said.
The board will move forward with a search process in the next couple months, but McCaslin plans to help ease the transition and continue to share her time as a “worker bee” and volunteer for upcoming projects. McCaslin told KCNI/KBBN that she believes the board will find the right person, but it needs to be someone who loves Custer County and rural Nebraska.
Deb and her husband Norm plan to spend more time with children and grandchildren, and also do some traveling.
