Megan Cameron represented everything that is good about Nebraska.
As a kid, she was an honors student in school, a leader in FFA, active in 4-H and athletic.
As an adult, she was a hardworking mother committed to her family and community.
She could be seen coaching her daughters in softball, basketball and volleyball. She carried her love of 4-H and the Burt County Fair into adulthood, serving as a leader in both.
Over the years, she’d worked at Mulhall’s Nursery in Omaha, Central Valley Ag near Lyons and the First Northeast Bank of Nebraska.
Her family’s not ready to talk about her death.
According to an obituary posted by Pelan Funeral Services, the 34-year-old Burt County woman “had a reputation for warming customers up with her contagious smile, warm personality, and infectious laughter. ... (Her) greatest passion of all was raising and providing her two daughters with countless opportunities.”
Cameron was fatally shot at her rural home May 16. Nearby, a man she had dated years earlier lay dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Judd Bogseth, 36, had a history of stalking, threatening and harassing Cameron and had served time in prison for violating a protection order that she’d taken out against him.
“She was a very wonderful person that never deserved this — no one does,” said Burt County Attorney Frank Barron, who had worked with Cameron on her efforts to keep Bogseth away.
When Bogseth’s January release from prison was looming, Cameron again took out a protection order.
“I in no way feel safe about this release. ... I am doing everything I can to protect myself,” she wrote. “He cannot be trusted to follow probation orders or leave me alone.”
In death, Cameron has continued with her giving spirit, her family wrote in her obituary.
“Megan’s death is not in vain, as she saved many lives through her choice of organ donation.”
She leaves behind her daughters, Sydney Mae Olsen, 12, and Karsen Kay Olsen, 9; her parents, Steve and Sara Cameron; brothers Sam, Lucas and Thomas; a sister, Kristen; her boyfriend, Jaco De Villiers; and many other friends and family.
