Broken Bow School Board Holds First Meeting Since Recall Election

The people voted, they voted once and now they have voted twice

- J.B Atkins

The Broken Bow School Board met for their regular meeting Monday evening. The meeting room was full of interested people including a large number of Broken Bow teachers along with several other citizens.

As in all regular monthly meetings, the board heard the financial report and discussed concerns that any of the members had about the figures. Following questions from JB Atkins and Carl French, the board approved payment of the claims.

Superintendent Tom Bailey read the district accolades which included recognition of the boy’s basketball team for their help with setup for game night at the North Park Elementary School and the Broken Bow Robotics team who just received a $3,000 donation. Mr. Bailey also reported he had just been handed several pages of positive comments about his job performance from the teachers. He thanked the teachers who were in attendance and waived reading those comments during the meeting.

JB Atkins reflected on the recall election during board comments. Approximately 60% of those who, showed up to the polls November 14th voted no in recalling Atkins. JB said the recall had not been easy for himself or his wife and family but he has learned through the process that it wasn’t about him. It was about the people. ‘The people voted, they voted once and now they have voted twice”. Atkins said he had to learn to put his faith in people much like having faith in God which can be hard at times but ultimately that is what he had to do. Atkins closed by asking the administration and the board to respect the decision of the people.

Administrator comments followed and the board moved into the action items on the agenda. We will have more details on future stories and newscasts.
