Broken Bow Cosmos Swim Team to Host Burger Bash

BROKEN BOW – Despite the conclusion of swim season, the Broken Bow Cosmos Swim Team is still putting in work. The team is throwing a burger bash at the Grocery Kart Thursday, July 28 to help raise money for its expenses and the upcoming season.

What makes the team unique, and the burger bash all that more special, according to 19-year-veteran head coach Shawn Morris, is exactly how the money raised will be implemented.

“The team pays the entry fees for the swimmers. With most teams, swimmers will pay a monthly fee or a season fee to the swim team, and an entry fee at meets on top of that. We’re one of the only teams that I know that pays the fees for the swimmers.”

The boast is no small feat for any organization, but even more impressive when one takes into account how many entry fees Morris and his team cover throughout the two-month season.

“We have 25 swimmers this year,” he says, one of whom has been making waves. “We have a Division I Championship swim meet this weekend in Lincoln, and we had one swimmer actually qualify in the 50-free for his age division, but we will be unable to attend.”

Events like the burger bash, and the money from those three hours, Morris says, are no mere drops in the proverbial bucket, and can help make those trips happen. “It really goes a long way in helping us.”

The event will take place between 4 and 7 p.m., and as is tradition, members of the team and staff will be serving food. Donations for the swim team will be accepted on-site.
