Broken Bow City Council Congratulates New Police Officer

The Broken Bow City Council held their regular meeting Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Before addressing the agenda items the council members took time to congratulate David Taylor for recently graduating from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center after completing 16 weeks of training.  Taylor is now a certified officer and will move into field training. Taylor became a member of the Broken Bow Police Department this past June. He is a graduate of Wayne State College with a degree in criminal justice.

In new business, the council approved the appointment of Monte (Bud) Clark as Street Superintendent from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2018. JEO Consulting Group Inc. was approved to serve as the City Engineer again in 2018.

Several Public Hearings were held and votes on the resolutions followed. They included approval of the Casey’s Store Liquor License addition, approval of a special use permit for a new irrigation and farm implementation repair and sales business located on 7 acres alongside east Highway 2 and approval of a lot split located in the south half of the northwest quarter.

The Council also approved a motion to enter into an agreement with Miller and Associates for assistance in complying with the Department of Environmental Quality’s requirements at the C&D Cell south of Broken Bow.

Approval of expenditures included, payment of $13,020.50 to JEO Consulting for work completed on flood risk reduction, $36,400.00 for an engineering study for surfacing South 19th Street near the new Fire House, payment to Bow Family Furniture in the amount of $12,000 for half down on the furniture at the Library, payment to JEO Consulting in the amount of 1,515.00 for work completed on the Broken Bow Library renovations through November 24th, and payment to Chief Construction in the amount of $210,799.02 for work completed on the Library renovations through November 30, 2017.

The Council voted to enter into closed session to discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining.

There were no votes cast on any issues following the closed session.

The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for December 26, 2017, at 12:00 p.m.
